You may know her as Kim on Disney XD's 'Kickin' It,' but tonight, October 12, Olivia Holt stars in Disney channel original Halloween flick 'Girl vs. Monster' at 8 p.m. Before the movie premiered, Olivia took the time to chat with us about the movie and her goof friend Kat McNamara!
J-14: Tell us a little bit about 'Girl vs. Monster.'
Olivia: 'Girl vs. Monster' is basically about my character, Skylar Lewis, who finds out that she is a fifth-generation monster hunter on Halloween. She has these big plans for Halloween to go to this party to see the guy she likes, and her parents are making her stay home. She's just so irritated and so angry because she wants to go to this party. She wants to sneak out of the house, but it doesn't exactly go as planned. She accidentally releases all of the monsters her parents, her past, her ancestors have gotten over the years. It just turns into this big, hectic and chaotic Halloween night, and her and her friends kind of have to save Halloween. It's an awesome film, and I'm really pumped for everyone to see it.
J-14: What attracted you to the movie?
Olivia: When I first read the script, it was funny because I was so into it that I was crying. I was reading it, and I was like, "Oh my gosh. Am I really crying right now?" But when I read the script, it was amazing and I thought that the characters were so great, especially Skylar. I thought she was so powerful, and she really inspired me. I was like, "I love this character." It ended up working out, and I'm so thrilled to be able to play her and to be able to have this experience and this opportunity.
J-14: What was it like playing a monster hunter?
Olivia: It was so cool because I'd never experienced playing a monster hunter before. I've always been kind of a regular teenage kid. My character Skylar finds out that she is a fifth generation monster hunter, and she kind of has to decide whether to accept the fact that this is her and her family and her past. It was really cool. I had such a great time. The action scenes were so much fun, and I totally enjoyed it.
J-14: Did you do most of your own stunts?
Olivia: I did, and that was one of the really cool parts. I got to learn a whole bunch from that as well, and we had so fun with all of the cool stunts in the movie.
J-14: What was it like working alongside Kat McNamara?
Olivia: She's a sweetheart. She actually guest-starred on 'Kickin' It' which was really cool, and she's a really good friend of mine. It's really cool, because when I found out that she was going to be in the movie as well, she was at the set that time I found out, and I was so happy. I was jumping up and down with her, and it was awesome to spend two months in Vancouver with her as well. We've become really good friends. Sometimes we'll try to get all of the 'Girl vs. Monster' cast together like a little mini reunion. We'll go swimming, and I promise you, every time I hang out with the cast, we eat pizza which is our go-to food. It's funny.
