We recently got the opportunity to chat with 12-year-old Yara Shahidi who's starring in the film Butter, alongside Jennifer Garner and Ashley Greene, and on the TV series First Family, in which she and her younger brother, Sayeed, explore living in the White House with their presidential family! She's also good friends with 'Twilight's' Mackenzie Foy and comes from a star-studded family! (You'll never believe who her cousin is -- rapper Nas!)
J-14: Were you a fan of 'The Twilight Saga' before you worked with Ashley Greene?
Yara: Yes. I read the 'Twilight' book, and my friend Mackenzie was in the last movie. In Butter, I think Ashley and I were in one scene together in the cooler for the butter. But everyone was really cool to work with on set. We've had so much fun.
J-14: How did you and Mackenzie meet? Yara: I've known her since I was little. We would both do print ads for companies, so we did a ton of different ads together. We've been friends ever since because we'd see each other so often. We'd even lose teeth at the same time, so we'd be in ads, and you'd notice that we both had the same tooth missing.
J-14: That's so cute! Tell us a little bit about the new TV show.
Yara: First Family on the CW is about the President and his family living in the White House. I'm the first daughter, Chloe Johnson, and my brother's in it, Sayeed, and he plays the second oldest son. And the show's about all of the trouble we get into at the White House, whether we're trying to sell products to kids or brushing our teeth with chocolate.
