Melanie Amaro made history last night when she became the first person to win The X Factor in the U.S. -- and a $5 million recording contract! "Life will change a lot," she says. "The most I have ever had before was $200, if I was lucky."

Mentored this season by Simon Cowell, the Sunrise, FL, native says before laying down tracks for her debut album (Simon says several record labels are already after Melanie!), she plans on getting a foot massage and buying a new house for her mom. "The one we live in now sucks," Melanie admits.
What's even more inspiring about Melanie's win is that she was originally sent packing during the audition round, but Simon personally went to her house to ask her to come back to the competition because he felt as if he made a "big mistake." "We came here to find a superstar, and we found a superstar," Simon says.
"For me to have won was big. I feel blessed and I feel happy," Melanie adds. "I have worked so hard to get here and I truly deserve this."
