Shailene Woodley is currently filming 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and this is just the beginning of a whirlwind of big screen appearances for 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' actress. John Green, the author of 'The Fault in Our Stars,' announced that Shailene will be playing Hazel Grace Lancaster in the film adaptation of his novel.
"Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn't until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time," Director Josh Boone says of Shailene's audition. "It was like lightning striking. I can't wait for the rest of the world to see what I have."
John is just as thrilled as the movie's director of the casting of Shailene, especially because she is devoted to the book as well.
"It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book," John says. "I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie and very exciting."
'The Fault in Our Stars' is a teen fiction novel about Hazel, a 16-year-old girl with terminal cancer who falls in love with 17-year-old Augustus, who she met in a support group.
