14-Things-we-love-about-Louis-Tomlinson.jpg

Valentine's Day is coming up, so for the next few days we're going to be sharing with you the 14 things we love about the hottest guys in Hollywood! Here's your first dose of love -- 14 special things about funny man, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson. Check back every day until Valentine's Day to see what we love about your favorite guy!

1. His sense of humor! Louis is always joking around with the other members of the band or playing pranks on them. We love that he doesn't take himself too seriously.

2. Louis is the modern day Peter Pan -- he always says he never wants to grow up and we love that he's such a big kid! From playing with Nerf guns, skateboarding during his downtime or getting the other guys to change lyrics to their songs, Louis knows how to stay "Forever Young."

3 Two words: beanies and glasses. Can we start a petition to bring them back?

4. His kind heart and selflessness. Louis is very close with his mom and sisters and he's done tons of charity work for children. It makes our hearts melt!

5. His laugh -- it's so contagious! We're pretty sure a puppy is born every time he giggles.

6. We love Louis' sense of style! Whether he's wearing his signature Toms, a graphic shirt and jeans or is dressed up in a suit, Louis is extremely well dressed in our book!

7. Louis' closeness with best friend and bandmate Harry Styles. All the guys are close but it amazes us that even after two years Louis and Harry are still the best of friends and get along so well! Louis is also very close with Harry's family! Aww!

8. We love his solos! Especially the one on "Over Again." It's even intern Lindsey's ringtone! His voice is so unique --w e could listen to him sing all day.

9. His stage presence. Louis puts everything into each song and it shows how passionate he is about his singing.

10. His tattoos! Although Louis once said he didn't like them for himself he's obviously changed his mind! They're quirky and fun and represent his personality so much.

11. His voice. We know the boy can sing, but what we really love is his speaking voice. We think Louis' voice was made for radio if he ever wants to change careers.

12. How Louis has admitted to being self-conscious, it shows that even guys don't like things about themselves. But we think you and all your "Little Things" are perfect Louis!

13. His complete randomness! Whether it's making faces on live television or his funny banter on Twitter with The Wanted or with fans, Louis always surprises us with his eccentricity.

14. Louis' modesty about fame. He is always in shock when someone brings up that they're at the top of the charts, or have broken a record. Louis is genuinely amazed at his fame and never takes it for granted. He can never believe it's really him achieving these great things.

8. Our hearts melt over how caring he is. He puts his friends and family first and there's nothing sweeter than that.

9. That hair. Whether it's quiffed or unquiffed, with a blond streak or not, it always looks flawless.

10. We love that every single tattoo isn't just some ink, but holds a special meaning to his heart.

11. Is he even capable of taking a bad picture? We're convinced he's not and we love that we have an endless supply of perfect pictures we can drool over all day.

12. His face. It's perfect. No really. It's been scientifically proven.

13. By day, he looks flawless in sweatpants. By the afternoon, he's pulled out the leather jackets and by night, he's perfection in a suit. His style is immaculate and he can pull it all off.

J-14 Exclusive: Zoey Deutch Talks 'Beautiful Creatures'

Zoey-Deutch-talks-Beautiful-Creatures.jpg

Eighteen-year-old Zoey Deutch has come a long way from playing Maya Bennett in 'The Suite Life on Deck' with the Sprouse twins. You can now catch her on the big screen playing Emily Asher in 'Beautiful Creatures' in theaters this Wednesday, February 13! The California native plays Gatlin, South Carolina's mean girl, in the upcoming Valentine's Day flick. We recently got the chance to talk to her about filming, costars, and a crazy little thing called love.

J-14: What made you want to play a mean girl?

Zoey Deutch: The character has a lot more layers than you would expect. I mean, everyone -- especially bullies, especially mean people -- they always have a reason behind everything. It's important to remember that everyone does things for a reason. And I really took the time to understand where she was coming from and to figure out a way to not judge her. Once you judge someone, it's really hard to play them because it doesn't feel honest. It doesn't feel real. I took a lot of time to understand where she was coming from, which is a place of hurt, a place of having a broken heart and not knowing the tools to deal with it and being entitled and feeling like you deserve everything. All these kind of recurring themes are really fun to play. You see them everyday and it's just a very human story.

J-14: When you were in school, did you encounter any girls like Emily?

Zoey: I think everybody feels, especially in high school and middle school, small and belittled and there's a lot of pain and anger. I really internalized a lot of it and I didn't speak with many people about it and I think the best advice that I could give to anyone is trust the people that love you and tell people how you're feeling. It feels really good to express yourself and tell people what you're thinking.

J-14: What was your first impressions of Alden and Thomas when you first got on set?

Zoey: Really great. They're wonderful people. They're really fun. We were in New Orleans and it was like camp on the weekends. We would just do weird stuff and go to alligator tours and just hang out and go to shops and go to jazz fest. I look back on that time really fondly and I hope it happens again. It was really wonderful.

J-14: What would you say was your favorite scene to film?

Zoey:
There's a scene where I tell my teacher that I can't read this book because my church doesn't allow it. I start praying in class and end up blaming everything on Lena Duchannes and she gets so fired up, she ends up breaking glass. Richard LaGravenese (director) did an amazing job of trying to make everything real. Like, most of the effects that happened in the movie, we actually saw it. It was real. They made it, so the glass actually broke and it really felt like, "Oh my God!" I really did not have to act. I really genuinely, in that moment, was like, "Oh my God, the glass is breaking!"

J-14: What's the craziest thing you've ever done for love?

Zoey: I think being able to really fall in love with someone is the craziest thing that could ever happen. You know, allowing yourself to really go there and really feel those things is extremely scary. It's extremely painful, sometimes, and you expose yourself in such a way. I think just falling in love alone and giving someone else a chance to fall in love with you and jump into your life is crazy enough. Along with all the beautiful things that come with it in a relationship, I think just falling in love in general is just crazy.

Are you excited to see Zoey Deutch playing a mean girl in 'Beautiful Creatures?'

J-14 Hot Band Alert: Fourth Quarter Comeback

Fourth-Quarter-Comeback.jpg

J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Fourth Quarter Comeback.

Here are four things you need to know about Fourth Quarter Comeback whose new EP 'The Only Way We Know' is out now!

1. Virgina's pop-punk Fourth Quarter Comeback consists of vocal and guitarist Andy Garcia, bassist Benjamin Cobb, guitar and vocalist Casey Johnson, and drummer Matt DuRousseau. "We all grew up loving music, playing music, and wanting to be in a band. We all have similar tastes in music and we all love creating songs," Andy tells J-14. "The four of us have been good friends for years."

2. The group came up with a sport referenced name regardless of the fact that sports are not their thing. "We are all really, really bad at sports, some more than others...Matt. So we picked a name that reminded us that this band, and the music we write and perform, is our last shot at victory in life," Andy tells J-14. "It's like when you make it all the way down the field to the end zone and make a home run."

3. Fourth Quarter Comeback just released their new EP 'The Only Way We Know' which is all about finding yourself. "We wrote the songs on the new EP from different times in the past year," Andy tells J-14. "Each track on the album ties into discovering new things about life and about living it the only way we know... being in love, wanting new love, escaping the bad times, and finding the reasons to live for the good times."

4. "Back to Sleep" is the lead track off their new EP. "When we wrote 'Back to Sleep', we had an idea of a love that existed only in someone's dreams. They would go through life, almost as a robot, doing the same things day in and day out, only to feel alive and feel self worth and love in their dreams," he explains. "The song definitely did not start out this way, but that's the part of the writing process that we truly love...creating something unique from nothing."

Check out Fourth Quarter Comeback's music video for "Back to Sleep" below and let us know what you think!

Harry Potter Gets a Makeover to Celebrate 15 Years

Harry-Potter-15-years-makeover.jpg

It's hard to believe that it's already been 15 years since Harry Potter first entered our lives, but the 15th anniversary of the bestselling series is upon us. To celebrate, Scholastic, J.K. Rowling's American publisher, has announced that the paperback editions of the books will be getting completely new covers starting in September.

Author and illustrator Kazu Kibuishi created the cover art for each book. Each cover will focus on a specific scene in its respective book in the series.

If you're nervous about the original covers by Mary GrandPré, Ellie Berger, president of Scholastic Trade Publishing, assures the public that there is no need to worry. GrandPré's covers will still be used on hardcovers and less expensive paperback copies.

Scholastic decided to change the covers because they "thought it was time for a fresh approach," says Berger. He hopes this will attract "the interest of a new generation of 8- and 9-year-olds who may know Harry mostly through movies."

Scholastic released the first of seven covers on Wednesday. 'The Sorcerer's Stone' cover illustrates Harry's trip to Diagon Alley with Hagrid after finding out he's a wizard for the first time.

Check out the brand-new cover HERE!

What scene do you think Kazu Kibuishi chose to focus on for each Harry Potter book?

Why We Love Fifth Harmony

Why-We-Love-Fifth-Harmony.jpg

Hey J-14ers!

When we heard that Fifth Harmony was headed back to Los Angeles to start working on their debut album, we couldn't have been any more excited! They captured our hearts from their first appearances on season 2 of 'The X Factor,' and it's hard to believe they've already come so far (they're already nearing half a million followers on Twitter and they haven't even released a single yet!).

To celebrate the girls' (including Demi!!) Valentine's Day reunion, we thought it was the perfect time to share with you exactly why we love Fifth Harmony so much.

For starters, they're just like us! During her 'X Factor' audition, Camila Cabello, one-fifth of the group, told the judges, "I would love to say something interesting, but all I do is sing karaoke and watch One Direction videos." This girl had the courage to admit she's a complete fangirl in front of 1D's creator, Simon Cowell. We love her for it because, let's be real, we're all doing the same thing.

In addition to One Direction, the girls love Demi Lovato about as much as Demi loves them. Since their performance of "Give Your Heart a Break" together, there has been an ongoing joke about them becoming 'Sixth Harmony.' The chances of Demi joining the group for real are slim but if rumors are true, we may be able to look forward to a collaboration on their first album.

The girls -- Ally Hernandez, 19, Normani Hamilton, 16, Lauren Jauregui, 16, Camila Cabello, 15, and Dinah Hansen, 15 -- are the definition of the girls next door. From Ally's "y'alls" to Dinah's "dawgs," we're thrilled to have them representing girls as one of the few U.S. girl groups.

Their journey is similar to One Direction's. They each auditioned last summer as soloists and were placed into a group after Simon saw something unique in each of them. They didn't win the competition (they placed third like 1D), but they certainly didn't walk away empty-handed. L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell surprised the girls at the 'X Factor' finale after party with a record deals from Syco Music and Epic Records.

We see big things in the works for these girls and can't wait to hear what comes out of their trips to the recording studio! In the mean time, join us in watching their performance of Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen" on repeat.

Check out their official site here and tell us what your favorite thing about 5H is below!

Can't wait to hear from you!

J-14 Editor Blog: On the Set of Beautiful Creatures

Beautiful-Creatures-1.jpg

Hi J-14ers!

Last summer, I met the most charming guy. He was sweet, passionate about music and travel, and exuded southern charm. And then he fell in love with another girl... but oddly, I didn't mind. I was swept away by their love story -- they defied so many odds to be together and their relationship was, well, magical. Yes, I became obsessed with this couple: Ethan Wate and Lena Duchannes in Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's book Beautiful Creatures.

So when I got an invite to visit the set of the movie in New Orleans, I was ecstatic! Now the Caster world that had come to life in my head was actually going to become a world I could actually step into!

Stepping into the Caster World
beautiful-creatures-set-visit-sign.jpg
The sign that the driver held up for us in New Orleans!

Before I knew it, on a muggy Louisiana evening in June, a shuttle bus driver stood outside my hotel with a sign saying "Beautiful Creatures." Passersby chuckled and asked if they were "beautiful" enough to join our group, but just after the stroke of 7 p.m., only a select few were whisked about 15 minutes away from Downtown NoLa to a nondescript set of buildings that looked like a big factory loading dock.

The publicist on set (called a "unit publicist" in movie speak) guided us into what felt like a giant warehouse with super high ceilings. At first glance, with the concrete floor and lumber all around me, I felt like I was inside a Home Depot. It was dark and dank and eerily silent. But then we turned a corner and I felt like I stepped into Harry Potter's Hogwarts!

As we walked up the steps of the Caster Library, I marveled at the details of every column and every wall. As we looked upon the Book of Moons sitting on the lectern, it was like peering at the pages of an actual well-worn historical artifact.

After the quick tour, we were led into a gigantic tent where Oscar-nominated costume designer Jeffrey Kurland sat down to chat with us about the precise detail that goes into every wardrobe piece you see on screen. But I was shocked by what he told us right away. "The first thing the direction Richard LaGravenese said to me was, 'Don't read the books!'" Jeffrey told us. But after he described why, it totally made sense. Since a movie captures the plot and characters differently than the book, it was important that they focus on the movie's script.

The white tent we were sitting in basically served as the "cafeteria" for the crew. And as soon as the set broke for dinner, everyone filed in for a quick meal that felt like an extravagant Vegas buffet with everything from a salad bar and entrees to smoothies and the tastiest chocolate chip cookies!

Chatting with the Beautiful Cast
beautiful-creatures-alden-ehrenreich-j14-editor-rachel-chang.jpg
Here I am with Beautiful Creatures' star Alden Ehrenreich at Comic Con in New York City.

After the dinner, we hung out in the tent through the wee hours of the night as the cast stopped in one-by-one whenever they got a break. Oscar-winning Viola Davis, who plays Amma, started off raving about why she chose the movie. "I'm a sucker for a great love story," she told us. "I don't care if they're teenagers, I just love it!"

And when I asked her about the obvious comparisons Beautiful Creatures is getting with Twilight, she got honest. "I hate comparisons. It just dismisses the value of the pieces when you compare," she told me. "There are fabulous things about Beautiful Creatures. There's a depth to the storyline that I really love dealing with the Civil War. There's no vampires, but everyone has a special ability, which I love. And I'm not in Twilight, so this is better!" Ha! Good point there, Viola!

Next, we played the movie-making game of "hurry up and wait" while we hung out waiting for Beautiful Creatures' two lead stars to stop by. As the rest of the journalists chatted amongst each other and nibbled on snacks, no one noticed as a mellow guy wandered toward our table by himself. Everyone assumed that he was just part of the crew passing through, but then I gave him a good look and stuck out my hand and introduced myself... and sure enough, he introduced himself as Alden Ehrenreich, who plays the lovestruck Ethan Wate I had fallen in love with in the pages of the book.

And just like Ethan, Alden was the most down-to-earth charming guy ever. He sat down and flipped through the teen magazines, asking how old One Direction and Justin Bieber are. "Wow, there's so much color," he said of the magazines. Ha! I then noticed that his glasses were broken -- completely missing an arm! He laughed and said that they still worked! True! No movie star diva attitude here!

Then we got down to business as Alden told us how a twist of fate landed him in the role. "I had a secret meeting with a casting director where I didn't know what it was for," Alden told us. But when he did find out, there was no question he wanted the role. "I knew I wanted to do the movie within like three pages of reading the script. I just really loved the character."

Sadly, the role went to another actor... until a last minute scheduling change meant the role was now his! "I woke up at eight in the morning with messages that I had gotten the part and at 6:30 at night, I was on the plane to New Orleans." Alden says. "There was no time to prepare for this experience." But his whirlwind adventure meant he went with his instincts more than he normally would have, which makes Alden's Ethan completely authentic.

As it neared 2 a.m., Australian actress Alice Englert who plays Lena joined us and thanked us for waiting so late into the night. With her classy Aussie accent, she explained what makes the Beautiful Creatures story so different than others. "What I love about this story is that it's more than just a boyfriend-girlfriend story -- it's a real ensemble," she says. "That's why I think their love is so much better. They have to let go of each other. It's about sacrifice."

After the cast bid their farewells, we hopped back into the van and drove out of the world of the Casters and back into our reality. I felt like I had just discovered a secret world right in front of my own eyes, like Ethan had... a world of movie-making magic just beyond the movie studio set!

Mindless-Behavior-J14.jpg

The boys of Mindless Behavior swung by the J-14 office and brought us up to speed on everything that's been going on with them lately. They've got a documentary movie 'All Around the World' in theaters, March 15, a new album of the same name hitting stands March 12, and have done a lot of growing up since we last saw them! They also couldn't leave without wishing J-14 readers a very happy Valentine's Day! Watch the video below to find out what they had to say.

J-14: Tell us a little bit about your new single and album.
Ray Ray: Our new single is "Keep Her On The Low." We're getting older now so we're starting to date and talk to different girls. Basically we like our personal lives to be real private. Whoever we're dating or talking to at the moment we keep to ourselves.

Prodigy: Me and the boys have been traveling and our mindset is growing. We've been maturing and our music is maturing with us.

J-14: What about your movie, 'All Around The World?'

Princeton: The movie is coming out March 15. Basically it's just a documentary about our lives -- how we've grown as a group and how our fans have grown with us. You're really going to be inspired by how we came from nothing to sell out the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

J-14: What was it like having cameras follow you around all day?

Roc Royal: At first it was kind of weird until we found out it was for the documentary. It was kind of uncomfortable, but at the same time fun. We get to react with the camera and stuff like that.

Princeton: Our managers didn't tell us that we were filming for a movie until five months later. They knew that if we knew, we would have put our guard up. We would have wanted some things in the movie and some things not. That was smart.

Prodigy: It was the real us, no script. It was really cool. We became friends with the people behind the cameras.

J-14: What's the most exciting thing you've gotten to do as singers?

Roc Royal: Perform for the first family.

Princeton: We also got to sing the National Anthem at the Colorado Rocky's game. That was the first time we sang without dancing. That was just straight vocals.

J-14: What's something that happens backstage or in the studio that would be surprising to readers?

Ray Ray: Usually when we're in the studio, we'll watch 'Spongebob.' It just keeps you awake. Everything on 'Spongebob' is funny. His voice and his laugh are annoying.

J-14 Exclusive: Alden Ehrenreich Talks 'Beautiful Creatures'

Alden-E.jpg

Alden Ehrenreich is a name that everyone will hear a lot once 'Beautiful Creatures' hits theaters nationwide today, February 14. After some guest roles in television and indie films, Alden, 23, is taking on the lead role of Ethan Wate in the novel-turned-film. His character wants nothing more than to get out of the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina, but instead, is drawn to Lena Duchannes, a caster played by Alice Englert. We talked to Alden about the difference between small-scale and large-scale movies, behind-the-scenes stories, and the reason why 'Beautiful Creatures' is the perfect movie for Valentine's Day. Also, you can win a copy of the "Beautiful Creatures" book signed by Alden himself!

J-14: What surprised you about the making of this movie in particular?

Alden Ehnrenreich: It was a really new experience for me to be in a movie of this size. There's this big budget, there are all these sets being built and it's all boiling down to a little two-shot of you and another actor. That's a weird thing to wrap your mind around. I've only done smaller movies before. That was the most surprising thing -- trying to bring the same feeling that I would have in a play or a small movie to this big thing. And Richard LaGravanese (director) was really wonderful because he created an environment that was intimate and personal for these actors.

J-14: In the trailer, we saw a lot of kissing scenes, what was it like preparing for that? Were you guys nervous?

Alden: No, I was so friendly with Alice Englert at that point, it was just part of the job. And there are a lot of kissing scenes. Kissing helps your body get into the scene and get into the character more -- from an acting stand-point it's really helpful. We would just kind of laugh about it.

J-14: Was there any line that tripped you up?

Alden: It was more the phrases. There are kind of these crazy, rhythmic phrases like, "Oh well that went over like a rock in church," where you go, "duh dada dada duh duh." Those phrases are hilarious and we had lists of them that we would just put in the movie because they were so funny.

J-14: What are some things that you, Alice Englert, and the rest of the cast members did together?

Alden:Alice and I would watch a lot of 'Columbo' together. It became our favorite show while we were there. You need to see it if you haven't seen it. It's a detective show from the 70s. What else would we do? I did a painting of her one day in the garden. That sounds so romantic, but it wasn't like that at all.

J-14: What makes this the perfect date movie?

Alden: I think it's a real relationship. People love love stories, but I think the best love stories are the ones that present real people and real relationships. They say that birds are born knowing how to migrate. Humans don't have instincts for everything that being a human entails, so we need to go to these stories to learn how to do it. I don't want to learn from a movie that says, "Oh, love is just perfect, easy and blissful." I would want to learn from something that says, "Sometimes you get in fights. Sometimes things are hard. Sometimes you hate each other but it doesn't mean you don't love each other." So, that's why I think it's the best date movie. And it's got a lot of romantic scenes and a lot of humor and charm.

Are you headed to the theaters to see Alden Ehrenreich in 'Beautiful Creatures?'
