Tyler James Williams' character, Cyrus, gets caught up in a case of mistaken identity in 'Let it Shine'! Tyler tells us why we should tune in to Disney Channel tonight at 8/7c -- and even dishes about girls!
J-14: Tell us about the story of 'Let it Shine'.
Tyler James Williams: My character, Cyrus, is going through a journey of self-discovery. He's writing songs for his father's church, trying to incorporate hip-hop. He reconnects with his childhood crush and enters a rap contest [anonymously], and everyone ends up thinking it's his best friend.
J-14: Have you ever written a song for a girl you liked?
Tyler: Yes! I wrote a song for a girl that expressed [how I felt]. It kind of said, 'Out of everyone who's been around, you're the one I want.'
J-14: What's one thing a girl should always do on a date?
Tyler: Smile a lot. That's something that really pulls a guy in. Laughing at his jokes keeps a guy's interest!
J-14: Why should fans tune in to watch 'Let it Shine'?
Tyler: It's fast. It moves! The music is great, and you get to see a lot of young talent like Coco [Jones] and Trevor [Jackson].
J-14: Which movie would you compare it to?
Tyler: It's a story about hip-hop and gospel music that reminds me of 'Sister Act'. It's definitely something we haven't seen in a while.
