J-14 Exclusive Interview: Becca Tobin Talks 'Glee'

Becca-tobin-glee-interview.jpg

She may play mean girl Kitty Wilde on 'Glee,' but in real life, newcomer Becca Tobin couldn't be sweeter! We caught up with Becca to get the scoop on what it's really like to be a part of the 'Glee' phenom... and her answers might surprise you!

J-14: Were you a fan of 'Glee' before joining the show?

Becca: I was a 'Glee' fan before I joined the show! Since my background is musical theater, it was exciting to see a TV show that incorporated music so much and in such a genius way.

J-14: What was it like joining the 'Glee' cast as the "new girl"?

Becca: Joining the cast as the "new girl" was intimidating, to say the least, but having the other new kids, like Melissa Benoist and Jacob Artist, made it a lot easier. The cast and crew were so welcoming, and very excited to have us join.

J-14: What's the best advice you've gotten from the original cast members?

Becca: The best advice I received so far was from Naya Rivera [who plays Santana]. She said, "Always know your lines before you get to work and BE ON TIME!" For some reason being on time in this industry can be a lost art form, especially for actors! It's important to remember that other people are always waiting for you on set, and its really unfair to make them wait.

J-14: What can we expect from Kitty in upcoming episodes?

Becca: In the upcoming episodes, we are going to see the same old mean Kitty, but we also get to see that she has a heart and is also very human! I'm excited for the viewers to get to know her a little better.

'Glee' airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on FOX.

If you've been waiting on the edge of your seat to find out if 'Sam & Cat' will really happen you can finally relax! The announcement of the 'Victorious' and 'iCarly' spin-off show starring Ariana Grande who played Cat on 'Victorious' and Jennette McCurdy who played Sam on 'iCarly' has been picked up by Nickelodeon for 20 episodes that will air in 2013.

The show follows Jennette and Ariana, who will be reprising their roles as Sam and Cat respectively, as unlikely roommates who become teen entrepreneurs by starting their own after-school babysitting business.

"This show promises to deliver on what our audience loves most about these two favorite characters -- laugh-out-loud humor and non-stop adventure, and is sure to be a compelling new chapter for our new comedic duo," says Russell Hicks, President, Content Development and Production, Nickelodeon.

Ariana and Jennette are just as excited about carrying on their beloved characters."'Sam & Cat' shows new sides of both Sam and Cat," Ariana tells J-14. "We get to show more of what we're like at home and Cat's somewhat responsible, so it's cool."

"The character lives on and that makes me happy because Sam is just too fun to not play," Jennette tells J-14.

How excited are you for Sam & Cat to air?

When J-14 Magazine met up with One Direction in New York City on Monday, Harry Styles told us exclusively that he would definitely date a girl taller than him.

And it seems like Harry may have found the tall girl of his dreams! This afternoon, Harry was spotted hanging out in New York City's Central Park with Taylor Swift, sparking more speculation that the are-they-or-aren't-they couple are packing in more quality time together to see if they could indeed be a good match.

The British boy bander and country sweetheart were seen taking a casual park stroll with One Direction's stylist Lou Teasdale, her baby Lux Atkin, and Lux's father Tom Atkin.

Taylor started off the walk with a coat and scarf, but with the New York weather hitting 50 degrees today, she soon shed her scarf, and eventually her jacket too when the group got to the Central Park Zoo. Harry and Taylor were even spotted admiring the animals with Baby Lux (awww!).

Do you hope that Harry Styles and Taylor Swift become an official couple soon?

While bandmate Harry Styles was on a romantic stroll through Central Park with Taylor Swift, One Direction's Liam Payne was also getting some quality time in with a special girl: ex-girlfriend Danielle Peazer!

Fans spotted the pair holding hands while walking along Fifth Ave in NYC. Although neither Liam nor Danielle has confirmed whether or not they are officially back together, they sure looked cozy shopping up a storm on Sunday afternoon.

If that's not cute enough, later in the day, Liam and Danielle joined fellow 1D couples Eleanor Calder and Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards to take in a festive Broadway show -- Elf!

Check out the photo of Liam and Danielle holding hands and tell us: do you think they're back together? Are you a fan of "Payzer"?

When we caught up with 'Pretty Little Liars' Lucy Hale on the ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas red carpet on Sunday, December 2, she couldn't stop raving about One Direction! In fact, she dished that she's going to their Madison Square Garden concert tonight, December 3, with a couple of young 1D fans. "There's going to be a lot of screaming [at the show]," she told us with a laugh.

The singer/actress, whose debut country album drops in 2013, even told J-14 that she'd be up for a 1D collaboration! "My music is very different from what One Direction does, but I'm down to make music with whoever wants to make music!" Lucy spilled exclusively to J-14.

The answer to the viral video question "What Did Justin Say?" has finally been revealed! In a brand-new PSA, Justin Bieber just announced his second annual do-good challenge -- fundraising to provide kids around the world with quality education by building new schools with Pencils of Promise's Schools4All campaign!

As if helping kids isn't great enough incentive to get involved, the grand-prize winning middle or high school will receive a visit from Justin and Pencils of Promise founder Adam Braun!

"I wanted to give every one of my fans a chance to help others and bring me to their school for just $25," Justin says. "The Schools4All campaign is a way for us young people to make a change, and I'll get to thank an entire school in person."

Starting today through January 31, 2013, students can create or join their school's fundraising team at Schools4All.org. After signing up, they can fundraise with their school to earn lottery tickets -- every $25 earned counts as one ticket.

At the end of the campaign, Pencils of Promise will select one winning lottery ticket to win the grand prize. The top three fundraising schools will win free flights for selected students to meet Justin at the grand-prize winning school visit!

J-14 Hot Band Alert: Paradise Fears

Paradise-Fears.jpg

J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Paradise Fears.

Here are five things you need to know about Paradise Fears who's gearing up to hit the road on The Resolution Tour with Action Item this January and February!

1. South Dakota's pop-rockers Paradise Fears consists of lead vocalist Sam Miller, guitarist and vocalist Cole Andre, drummer Lucas Zimmerman, guitarist Jordan Merrigan, keyboardist Michael Walker, and bassist Marcus Sand, all who grew up together. What inspired them to make a band? "We were bored and loved Taking Back Sunday," Sam tells J-14. "We just started playing music together and it sort of just evolved from there."

2. Do they look familiar? That may be because they've been on the pop-rock tour circuit for the past few years! They have opened for the likes of The Cab, The Summer Set, The Ready Set, and even All Time Low -- who were one of the first bands to put them on a lineup after they had followed them around, giving out CDs and meeting fans at shows.

3. Originally, the band had been called Paradise Fears The Turtle. "I wish I had a reason for it but I don't attempt to understand the 15-year-old mind of myself," Sam tells J-14. "Then we were like, 'wait, no, that's dumb. People are going to think we're like a Grateful Dead or a jam band. So we dropped 'The Turtle' and became Paradise Fears."

And now they're holding hands!

Yes, it's true. After spending Sunday afternoon at the Central Park Zoo together,Taylor Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles made their hand-holding debut in the wee hours of the morning after One Direction's sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Taylor missed the concert since she was being honored by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights at the Ripple of Hope Awards for her dedication to social causes. The event was at the Marriott Marquis Hotel -- where J-14 Magazine hung out with Harry Styles and the rest of One Direction exactly one week before -- just 12 blocks north on Seventh Avenue of where Harry was performing.

This morning, Harry Tweeted: "Last night was the best thing I have ever done."

Both One Direction and Harry Styles' rumored GF Taylor Swift have recently performed on The X Factor -- and rumors have been swirling that Harry came back to the show to support Taylor! With tons of "Haylor" speculation going on currently, we caught up with X Factor finalist, Diamond White, to get the real scoop on what went on backstage!

One Direction's Harry Styles did in fact come back to 'The X Factor' set one week after his band's performance to support his rumored new girlfriend. Although Diamond tells us that she didn't see them having lunch together, as was reported on Twitter, she did see him at Taylor's soundcheck!

"I saw Taylor walk through to do sound check and then five minutes later Harry came through and sat down and he waved to us," Diamond tells us. "I was like 'Oh my God! Harry Styles is here! Why is here?' I didn't know what was going on -- and now I hear that they're going out? That's cool!"

While we still don't know if Harry and Taylor are official, Diamond told us that she definitely approves of the maybe-couple, saying, "I'd be a fan of that! They would be so cute together!"

The boys performed all of their biggest songs from their 'Up All Night' album and select songs from 'Take Me Home,' including "C'mon, C'mon," "Kiss You," and "Little Things," featuring additional vocals by the song's writer, Ed Sheeran! The-Neighors-Max-Charles.jpg

Imagine moving into a close-knit gated community -- only to find that all of your neighbors are aliens?! And they're all in human form using names of famous sports stars?! That's exactly the kind of silliness that makes up ABC's sitcom 'The Neighbors.'

So why should you watch this alien-infested sitcom, which airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT (7:30 p.m. CT)? Max Charles, who's appeared on 'Raising Hope' and 'Jessie,' plays Max Weaver, the son in the human family -- and he exclusively tells J-14 four reasons why you must watch his show.

1- The show is awesome!
"Well, the first reason you should be watching 'The Neighbors' is because it rocks!" Max tells J-14.

2- The lines will keep you LOLing!
"We have awesome writers that write the funniest scripts for us every week," he says. "So there is no other show on TV that is like 'The Neighbors.'"

3- It keeps you on the edge of your seat!
"The third reason is you never know what's going to happen next!" Max says. "You never know when they are going to turn into green gooey aliens or how the aliens are going to embarrass the Weavers next. It gets really wild and crazy!"

4- You can bond over it with your whole family!
"And lastly, you can watch the show with your whole family because it's a goofy, hilarious ABC comedy," Max tells J-14. "Every Wednesday, my family orders pizza and I watch 'The Neighbors' with my dad, mom, and three brothers -- and we all laugh the whole time! It's the best and you should do the same thing with your family and friends!"

What do you think of ABC's 'The Neighbors?'
