J-14 Exclusive: Singer Dylan Hyde Talks Debut Album

Dylan-Hyde-q-and-a.jpg

After getting his start as a YouTube sensation, 16-year-old Dylan Hyde is now branching into making his own music. He recently took a break from recording his first album to sit down with J-14 to tell us about his dreams and what makes him stand out as a solo artist.

J-14: Tell us about your new album!

Dylan Hyde: My album will sound like my version of all my inspirations. I try to throw some 90s influence into it -- like Boyz II Men -- but still keep it contemporary. It will be coming out early this year.

J-14: Where do you get inspiration for your songs?

Dylan: I just listen to music and search for new songs. I listen to classical music too.

J-14: How did you get your start in music?

Dylan: It started small, I did karaoke at a really young age, then I started doing theater. Songwriting became one of my hobbies and that's when I figured out that being an artist is what I want to do with my life. Things started falling into place, one after another and it made me realize this is my dream -- and here I am!

J-14: When did you first know you wanted to be a singer?

Dylan: I was two. My cousins all went up to sing karaoke and they got all the attention. I remember thinking that wasn't very cool, so I went on stage and sang "All Star" by Smash Mouth and I thought it was the coolest song in the world!

J-14: What makes you different from other up-and-coming male artists, like Austin Mahone?

Dylan: My sound is different than what you're hearing right now. You hear the same things all the time and you need a change.

Are you excited to hear Dylan's music?

J-14 Exclusive: Alexandra Miller and Whitney Vance Talk 'The Carrie Diaries'

Alexandra-Miller-Whitney-Vance.jpg

Alexandra Miller, who has been performing for as long as she can remember, moved around constantly and modeled before deciding to tackle acting professionally. Whitney Vance was discovered on the streets of Manhattan, where she grew up, when she was just 4 and has been acting ever since. They got their starts differently, but have joined forces to play Donna LaDonna's (Chloe Bridges) fellow mean girls, the Jens, on 'The Carrie Diaries.' We talked with the girls about what it's like working with Chloe and AnnaSophia Robb, and they filled us in on what it's like on set.

J-14: What's it like working with Chloe Bridges?

Whitney Vance: She has the best laugh. She's the kind of person that you want to make laugh because her laugh is contagious. It's great. She's awesome. I have become very, very close friends with her.

Alexandra Miller:
She's so much fun to be around and she wants to have fun, so since she wants to have fun, she makes you want to have fun and you feel so relaxed. She's the biggest sweetheart, but I think Whitney hit it. Her laugh is ridiculous.

J-14: Can you tell us about your co-stars, AnnaSophia Robb and Austin Butler?

Whitney: AnnaSophia's the biggest sweetheart, since day one.

Alexandra: Yeah, we were shooting the pilot and it was freezing one day. We were all in these tiny clothes and she was talking to the director and the producer asking, 'Can you guys get them their Uggs?' Totally watching out for us.

Whitney: Yeah, even for the extras. The extras were wearing literally nothing, like little shorts and t-shirts and she was like, 'Are they on screen?' Since they weren't, she was like, 'Can they, then, leave?' Most lead actors of casts don't really care for everyone else like that.

Alexandra: But she cares for everybody. And Austin, when he talks to you, he makes you feel like you're the only person alive, like you're the only person in the world. He can make you fall in love with one look.

J-14: What was your biggest insecurity growing up?

Alexandra: I'm multiracial and I guess my biggest one was probably trying to figure out where I fit in with groups of people. Not that everything was always broken down by race, but sometimes it was, especially when I was in California in a big public high school. So just not quite knowing who I was in terms of that very basic part about yourself.

Whitney: It wasn't necessarily an insecurity, but because I've always been acting, my mom would dress me very funky. It wasn't cool to be so funky before, I don't know, ten years ago.

J-14: Have you guys had any embarrassing moments on set?

Alexandra: No, not really, but we've probably almost fallen so many times because they put us in the highest, worst shoes that are so painful. Sometimes, we've had to walk really fast or walk down the stairs in our triangle of mean girls. It's a little hard. It's like, 'Let's not fall on our face in front of everybody.' I think so far we've done pretty good.

J-14: The ultimate question: are you guys a Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, or Miranda?

Whitney: I'm Samantha. I didn't even need to think.

Alexandra: I think I am a combination between Carrie and Samantha. I would love to be Samantha, but I feel like I'm more Carrie.

Demi Lovato just couldn't wait to share her new single, "Heart Attack", with her fans, so she released it weeks earlier than expected and now she's released the lyric video to go along with it!

Demi released the song early because the entire song leaked to the public illegally. "I care if people illegally download it but at the end of the day, I just want my song out there. If a lot of people are hearing it that's all that matters," said Demi Lovato.

Releasing "Heart Attack" early definitely paid off.

Demi's new single has been on the top of the iTunes charts since its release. "THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! ALL BECAUSE OF YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! " Tweeted Demi in response.

The song is the first of many singles Demi Lovato is set to release this year, along with a new album for 2013.

J-14 Hot Band Alert: Adelaine

Adelaine-Currents.jpg

J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Adelaine.

Here are four things you need to know about Adelaine whose sophomore album Currents is out April 30!

1. Hailing from Houston, TX, the female-fronted rock band Adelaine consists of high school friends, lead singer Stormy Piña, guitarist Donny Bayless, guitarist Wayne Davis, bassist Matt Hannum, and drummer Zach Sebree. After high school, Donny, Wayne, and Zach formed Adelaine and quickly realized something -- or rather, someone! -- was missing. Matt and Stormy soon joined the group. "I was in another band at the time and they kept asking me to audition for them. I finally did, and it just clicked," Stormy says. "It was meant to be."

2. The best way Adelaine describes their music is upbeat songs that also have a darker, emotional side. "We want people to know that we have been where they are and there is hope on the other side," Stormy says. "We want people to hear the songs the way their heart takes it and be impacted. Above all, we want to be a positive influence," Donny adds.

3. Adelaine has a busy year ahead, gearing up for the release of their sophomore album Currents and getting ready to hit the road on tour with Sumerlin this April and May.

4. The first single set for release from Currents is "Bad Blood", an up-tempo song about relationships, betrayal, and forgiveness, the perfect sample of what the album is all about.

Check out their acoustic video for their track "Do or Die" and let us know what you think!

J-14 Exclusive: Kat DeLuna Talks New Album 'Viva Out Loud'

Kat-deluna-talks-viva-out-loud.jpg

Kat DeLuna is gearing up for the release of her next studio album, 'Viva Out Loud' and we talked with the "Whine Up" singer from the Dominican Republic about her new sound, what she's been up to the past few years, and her crafty side!

J-14: Was there anything specific in the last few years that you've gone through that inspired any of the tracks on your album?

Kat DeLuna: Everything. Even the actual title of my album, it's called 'Viva Out Loud,' which means live out loud. People always say that until you go through certain experiences, you really don't understand, so to me, I felt like, I have to live. If I'm going to write a song, I'm going to be working in the studio, I'm going to do what I want and live, live, live because when you plan stuff and don't let yourself get loose, it doesn't work.

J-14: How involved are you with the writing process?

Kat: 100 percent. I think that it's very important for you as an artist, especially as a singer, let's say if you can't write, to at least be involved in the process because your fans, they definitely feel it when it's real.

J-14: Which song on the album means the most to you?

Kat: There's this song on the album that I want to say is a homage to a very special artist who was a big inspiration to me and I really can't give it away. To me, it's like a big record. It was something that we did for fun and we didn't know that it was going to feel like that and be like that. Another song that I'm really excited about is "Surrender," which is beautiful and it's talking about how I surrender to your love, but right now, let's dance. And then, "Pieces of My Heart," where I'm really singing. I made sure that I sang more this time around, but "Bon Appetit" I know is one of my favorites besides "Wanna See U Dance," of course, but "Bon Appetit" definitely because it's very new, the sound, and it's crazy. It's just talking about how let me be your everything to a guy, bon appetit, dessert.

J-14: What can we expect from the album?

Kat: On the album, this time, I didn't want to leave anyone out, so the same way that I have upbeats, like "Wanna See U Dance," I have merengues that are in Spanish and at the same time, I did this whole new sound -- very obscure sound ballads mixed in with this new UK dubstep that I'm really obsessed with. So it's a new way of dance, but it's really not dance. It's just like crazy pop.

J-14: If you weren't a singer, what would you be doing?

Kat: I'm very crafty. I make candles. If I don't know how to cook something, I know how to cook it by reading the recipe. I make lip balms and lotions and I'm thinking about making my own eyelashes. Definitely something like a crafty person. I'll probably be Martha Stewart. The new Martha Stewart.

J-14 Exclusive: Kaitlyn Jenkins and Julia Goldani Telles Talk 'Bunheads'

Kaitlyn-Jenkins-Julia-Goldani-Telles-Bunheads.jpg

Kaitlyn Jenkins and Julia Goldani Telles first danced onto our television screens last year when ABC Family's 'Bunheads' premiered. The dancers-turned-actresses have been able to combine the best of their two favorite worlds by stepping into the shoes of their characters, Boo Jordan and Sasha Torres, and they're now gearing up for season two! We talked to Kaitlyn and Julia about their dancing careers, the show, and what bunheads are in for during the second season.

J-14: When did you both start dancing?

Julia Goldani Telles: I started dancing when I was five or six. It was that sort of thing where parents like to see the little girls in tutus. It's kind of like a tradition, if you're lucky enough to be able to do that. So, I was having fun and I just ended up really liking it.

Kaitlyn Jenkins: My mom was a ballet dancer and she actually danced with companies. She always had a love for dance, so she put me and my brother in dance. My brother grew out of it, but I didn't. I just never had the jazz, hip-hop thing down. I was too sweet, naïve, and innocent. I liked the pretty music and the pretty costumes. Basically, I really liked ballet because it told a story and jazz was just dancing to a dance. I saw more of a story in ballet, so I was like, 'Wow, I want to tell stories.' That's kind of how I started off -- relating to the stories, so I always carried that with me.

J-14: What attracted you both to 'Bunheads?'

Kaitlyn: I just wanted to make it in Hollywood at this point. I had been injured and I just wanted to pursue my ballet career and I wanted to act. I had made the decision to switch from dancing to acting as my main focus. I love acting, I love auditions, so I was just like, 'You know what, alright, I'll try it.' I went in there and I was like, 'I'm probably not going to get it.' My mom's like, 'Think big. I just have a feeling this is going to be it,' and I was like, 'Okay, Mom, you say that about everything.' She was like, 'No, I have a feeling.'

Julia: What attracted me to the show was Amy Sherman Palladino. I'm not at a point at all where I can pick projects, but I knew that if I got on this it would be an incredible opportunity because I respect her so much. It's very stylized and I really admire its style. It has a very unique voice. Also, I liked that this is a time where ballet was coming up at Hollywood, being accepted and explored and to be a part of something like that again has its own special voice. It's set in a small town and has real a life dynamic and friendships.

J-14: Did you need any extra ballet training for the show?

Kaitlyn: We did have training with Margaret, she's our choreographer, so I guess you could say that's training in a way. We had all the choreography and we had to learn how to dance with the other dancers and some of the dancers were from 'So You Think You Can Dance.' They are so awesome. I don't think I've met a mean dancer at all. They're all so great and it's such a fun experience because not only do you get to act, but you get to be a part of the whole process of putting it together and then creating it and then sharing it to not just a small audience. You get to share it with the world. It kind of blows my mind.

J-14: How are you two similar or different to your characters?

Kaitlyn: I'm similar in the ways I love dreaming, imagining things. I've been like that since I was young. Some things that are different, I'm a little bit more of a realist now. I still take those values and those dreams with me, but I think a little bit more business now. A little bit more realistic and fashion. I like to make statements and really go in depth with fashion. I've always been kind of passionate about that so it's really fun that I get to explore that now, be in the spotlight and share that with other people.

Julia: I think I'm similar to Sasha in that I'm adventurous. I love being with friends and being like, 'No, let's go do that. Let's go do that,' and everybody's like, 'Eh, you sure?' But, I think I'm different from her in that I'm a little bit more composed. I like to think in certain situations where I can deal with feeling frustrated or vulnerable, although I do sometimes put up a sarcastic front when I'm feeling vulnerable, so that's a similarity. As far as style, I love leather, I love boots, I love dark colors, and I think we're both not the most optimistic people. I'm learning how to be more optimistic, but I'm always like, 'Oh, it's not going to work out. Everything is going to go bad,' and I think that's something her friends lift her out of. That's what Kaitlyn does to me.

J-14: What can we expect from the upcoming season?

Kaitlyn: I know there will be stuff going on in their love life. Probably get to explore that, a new, sweet, kind of adorable romance.

Julia: I think more the girls' individual story lines than we've seen before.

Kaitlyn: I think we probably get to see some of Sasha's home life. I think we'll get to see some of B's, Melanie's, Genny, maybe some more of that. And their individual struggles, kind of see how they can come together and fix that -- make it good.

Coco-Jones-talks-made-of.jpg

Coco Jones is on fire and her upcoming album, 'Made Of' will be available in stores on March 12th! During our chat with the singer we learned about the madness that goes on backstage at her concerts and how she got the idea for her single, "Holla At The DJ."

J-14: Tell us about your upcoming album.

Coco: It's going to be similar to the EP except there's going to be a lot more songs. They're going to be really different. You won't even be able to compare them. Not in a way where you're just off track with all these different songs. They'll all have the same theme. The EP is called 'Made Of' like show me what you're made of. It's going to be a description of who I am and the types of styles that I like. Basically like a journal - a
music journal.

J-14: Tell us about your single, 'Holla At The DJ'.

Coco: 'Holla At The DJ' is actually a funny story of how the song came along. I was on vacation and I went to this teen club. It was me, some of my family, cousins and some of my friends. I was waiting on the DJ to play my favorite song so I went over to him and I was like, "Look I really want you to play this song, so can you play it?" He didn't play it until an hour later and I could finally dance. And I was like this should be a song and that's how the song came along.

J-14: How involved were you in the writing process?

Coco: I wrote a lot and I really have a creative hand over everything. I co-wrote the whole album so I got a lot of opportunity to write. All the songs that are on my EP and my album are basically me.

J-14: What's something that happens in the studio or backstage that would be surprising to readers?

Coco: I'm going to say backstage at the concerts. I did some concerts where I had to change outfits. It's funny because when you're on stage you're like, "Thank you guys, I hope you're ready for the next song!" As soon as nobody sees you, you run and you're taking off your clothes at the same time. It's the craziest thing. It's like a madhouse back there.

J-14: What's the most exciting thing you've gotten to do as a singer?

Coco: The most exciting thing I want to say was performing at the Bahamas. I went for a week and half - me and my entire family. It was a water park mixed with the hotel and mixed with the beach. It was the Atlantis. The best vacation I've ever had. And then all I had to do was sing. I was like, 'I will do this everyday.' It was great.

Are you excited for Coco's new album, 'Made Of?'

According to a source,Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called off their fairy tale wedding.

"Liam and Miley are done," the source says. "Miley put her career on hold to spend all her time with Liam. Now that she is back recording her fourth album, he's not happy. She says she's already over it."

The 20-year-old singer's new workload seems to be only a part of the couple's problems. The report also adds that "work has put a stress on their relationship."

There have also been a lot of rumors about trouble in paradise because the two have been spotted out separately several times. Miley celebrated Victoria Justice's birthday by herself, Liam was spotted in a car with January Jones at an Oscars after-party, and was seen "flirting" with Emma Watson.

Things aren't completely over yet for the lovebirds, however, the source reassures us sating, "They still love each other and hope to make it work."

UPDATE: Miley has put the breakup rumors to rest. Just a few hours after the rumors started circulating, she Tweeted, "I am so sick of La. And sick of the lies that come with it. I didn't call off my wedding. Taking a break from social media. #draining." We're glad to hear the wedding is still on for 'The Last Song' couple.

I love you all and am endlessly appreciative of your support. Stay tuned! X."

We wish Shenae and the entire '90210' cast lots of luck and can't wait to see what final season five has in store for us!
